We live in one of the best areas of the largest city (by a factor of seven) in the country with the fifth largest economy in the world. It makes sense then that we are surrounded in our day-to-day activities by the rich and famous of France. Unfortunately, though, since we are not French, we don't recognize anybody.
We've been told that various Parisian celebrities send their kids to the same school as ours attend. The park near our apartment is one of the nicest in Paris and attracts tons of walkers, joggers, and people watchers. There are definitely people that have the look of television announcers, models, and business executives, but we don't recognize them and are only left to wonder and speculate.
Our only brush with the rich and famous so far is the supermodel who has one child in Paige's class and one in Clay's. Erin has spoken with her a couple of times and she is very friendly and down-to-earth. We see her at pick-ups after school and on billboards throughout Europe and she always causes a bit of a stir -- from Paige: "There's the model!".
The person that has me the most intrigued is the one that lives around the corner and about a block down the street. The building has 24x7 police presence in front of it. Day and night, since we've been here, every time I've walked by there is at least one uniformed Paris police officer standing guard. Who might live there? Nicolas Sarkozy? Jacques Chirac? Some foreign ruler now living in exile in Paris? I'm guessing I'll never know.
